Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important political figure commented the incident left him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
